Repeat Prescriptions can be ordered in writing from the practice. You can request repeat medication through Online Services or in writing at Reception. Please allow 48 working hours for your prescription to be processed and made available at your chosen collection point.
Unfortunately it is not possible to take prescription requests over the phone or process prescription requests while you wait so it is important to order your medications in plenty of time as to not run out.
At The Allan Practice, we utilise the NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) which allows us to send medications electronically to any pharmacy in England. If you would like to have your prescriptions automatically sent to a pharmacy for you to collect, please speak to your doctor's secretary to set up a nominated pharmacy.
Many medications require monitoring by your General Practitioner or Hospital Consultant. Patients will be invited periodically for blood tests and medication reviews if required. It is important to book an appointment as soon as possible after being invited for a medication review to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Standard Prescription Charges for NHS medications are currently £9.00 per item.
For those patients who have extensive regular medication, have a qualifying chronic condition or are on benefits can apply for prescription exemption cards or prepayment certificates.
For more information on prescription charges and exemptions, speak to your local pharmacist.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website
